About Salisbury

Salisbury, North Carolina is a beautiful town--an exquisite blend of history, culture and modern conveniences. You can visit for a day or a week, and find plenty to do. Gift shops, antique shops, and many other stores selling unusual and unique merchandise can be found, with the added pleasure and warmth of old-fashioned Southern hospitality. Have lunch indoors or out, at a deli or family-style restaurant. Treat yourself to a lavish meal at a restored church or eighteenth century home, both of which are superb restaurants with outstanding cuisine. History buffs are in luck, as both walking tours of the historic downtown area and driving tours of local Civil War sites are available. The Josephus Hall House, Grimes Mill, the Rowan Museum in the County Courthouse, (dating from 1854), the Civil War prison, and the Town Well--Salisbury's oldest landmark--are just some of the notable sites. There are over 1200 properties in 10 National Register Historical areas. October is a great time to be in Salisbury, with OctoberTour bringing many visitors and special events. Art galleries, sculpture shows, outdoor music festivals, the Annual Tour of Homes, and kids' activities are just some of the planned happenings. Christmas also brings special celebrations with seasonal visits from Santa and the Grinch, and 17th century decorations in many of the historical homes.
