Tar Heel Blog has new update
2 days ago UNC Health Championship coming to Raleigh
Photo by Tracy Wilcox/PGA TOUR via Getty Images Roy Williams will be the honorary chairman for the 2024 tournament played from May 30 to June 2. Golf fans will be able to see future PGA Tour pros in Raleigh shortly, as the Korn Ferry Tour—a developmental tour for the PGA—comes to the Raleigh Country Club. Former UNC head basketball coach and Hall of Famer Roy Williams, a famous golf fanatic, will serve as honorary chairman for the UNC Health Championship. Roy Williams won’t be the only Tar Heel on the greens. UNC alum Ryan Gerard and current Carolina golfer (and All-American) David Ford are both expected to play. If you’re looking for something to do this summer, you can get involved as a volunteer for the tournament. They are still recruiting several key positions, including scorers and marshals. If working the course isn’t your speed, tickets are still available. If you want to catch a glimpse of Roy Williams, who is living his best life in retirement, he plans on playing in the Pro-Am, and should be pressing the flesh amongst the players and sponsors during the tournament. Expect Roy Williams, and other North Carolina golf fans, to use the UNC Health Championship as a tournament appetizer before the 2024 US Open, which will be played at Pinehurst this year from June 9-16. In addition to following your favorite golfers along the course, seating is available at holes Nos 6, 16, and 18. If you’re local, come cheer on your competing Tar Heels and Roy Williams in Raleigh!
Tar Heel Blog has new update
2 days ago Vince Carter’s number to be retired by the Brooklyn Nets
Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports The former Tar Heel will be in the rafters. On Wednesday morning, the Brooklyn Nets announced on social media that they will retire Vince Carter’s No. 15 jersey. The former Tar Heel, who played under Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge, played five seasons with the Nets and was surprised by former teammate Jason Kidd in a video sharing the news. The interaction can be watched here: It’s official: We’re raising @mrvincecarter15’s jersey to the rafters next season. And we invited a pair of Nets legends to assist with the announcement. https://t.co/IkjyKxMU3n pic.twitter.com/qi1khzBK39— Brooklyn Nets (@BrooklynNets) May 15, 2024 Carter played a lengthy NBA career for a handful of teams, but left quite the mark with the Nets -- who were formerly in New Jersey -- when he was there. In his tenure from 2004-09, Carter averaged 23.6 points per game and set the franchise single-season scoring record in 2006-07. He was a three-time all star while in New Jersey, but will be remembered much more for the high-flying and highlight reel moments he produced. Vince Carter will be just the seventh Nets player found in the rafters when the ceremony officially takes place next season. Along with this accolade, Carter will also be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame this summer. The 47-year-old can also be found in the rafters of the Dean E. Smith Center, where he was a second-team All-American. As Vince Carter drifts farther away from his time on the hardwood, I’d assume recognition will continue to pile in for the record-setting 22-year NBA veteran. Congratulations, Vince!
