Tar Heel Blog has new update

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
The Tar Heels’ best player will be back in 2024. RJ Davis is reportedly coming back to UNC for a fifth season in 2024, according to reports. The Tar Heel guard has a Covid year that allows him to use an additional year of eligibility, and it sounds like Davis has chosen to do just that.
Matt Norlander of CBS reported Tuesday afternoon that Carolina would be getting additional good news after Seth Trimble made the decision to withdraw his name from the transfer portal and return to Chapel Hill. A source reportedly told Norlander that an announcement from RJ would be coming in the next few days.
Welcomed news in Chapel Hill—with more on the way. Trimble’s not the only guy sticking around. RJ Davis is on board to return as well, source tells @CBSSports, with an official announcement landing in the next few days. UNC also returning Elliott Cadeau in the backcourt, too. https://t.co/HKsLsOFiZy— Matt Norlander (@MattNorlander) April 23, 2024
RJ’s return is obviously huge for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels. RJ found his groove playing off the ball most of the time with freshman Elliot Cadeau running point for the Heels. Davis was a strong contender for National Player of the Year and a consensus first team All-American. Getting that experience back to Chapel Hill with incoming recruits like Ian Jackson and Drake Powell will be extremely valuable.
There will inevitably be questions about playing time in the backcourt and whether RJ can repeat the performance he had in 2023. What is clear is that, with RJ back, the Tar Heels will have one of the best backcourts in the country and will be a trendy pick for one of the best teams heading into next season.
