Description
Get ready for some fun as we celebrate the official opening of the bike lanes on The Plaza with a Mardi Gras themed bike parade and party at Holy Trinity church (1900 The Plaza).
Event Details
Everyone is welcome, so feel free to share with your friends all over Charlotte!
City leaders will kick things off at 11 am with a "ribbon-cutting" ceremony and then the parade will commence. The route will consist of a short loop around The Plaza, making it easy for all ages and skill levels to participate - just be sure to get in the spirit by dressing up and decorating your wheels (bikes, scooters, wagons, etc.) with a little Mardi Gras flair. For those who live on The Plaza, we'd love you to join in on the festivities from your front yard by cheering on parade participants just like they do it in New Orleans.
The party will continue at Holy Trinity Church until 1 pm with food, activities, and a live Mardi Gras Band! B-Cycle, BIRD, and Charlotte Cycles will be there with bikes and scooters to try out.
Want to learn how you can get engaged to help Charlotte become a bicycling city? Sustain Charlotte is hosting a 'Shifting Gears' workshop during the event, let them know you will be there - https://rebrand.ly/shifting-gears-the-plaza
And thanks to our friends at Charlotte Cycles, PMNA will be raffling off a brand new electric bike valued at $3,295. Get your raffle ticket here: https://plazamidwood.org/ebike/
All proceeds of the raffle will go to PMNA's new Midwood Mile initiative, starting with a very cool art mural installation currently in the works!
